Accordingly, DOST02 grants are intended to develop new products by the Product and Development Center (PDTC).  Through this center will serve as instructional program of students and equivalently will support Micro, Small, & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who wanted to be trained on food processing to commercialize their products.  However, the center has limited resources like state-of-the-art equipment for product development. Hence, through the support of DOST RO2, the gap to create, innovate and develop products for the community or MSMEs will be filled.

An inception meeting was made to set the direction of the project which was participated by bunch of NVSU officials led by Dr. Jonar Yago, Director for Research and Dr. Marites Fronda, the Center Manager of the PDTC.  This meeting was also attended by Engr. Jonathan Nuestro and three DOST NV personnel.

The objectives of the project entitled “Strengthening Product Development and Training Center of NVSU Bambang” are; a) To enhance manufacturing as well as processing operations of MSME’s and other organized groups in the locality through the conduct of technology transfer training and technology incubation activities. b) To conduct product development on fruits and vegetables that can be used for some food preparations by using the tomato and squash as the main materials. c) To distinguish which food preparation is more suitable for the tomato and squash powder in terms of palatability and also to determine which preservative is better in terms of shelf-life of the product. d) To provide alternative technologies to communities and opportunities to help enhance their productivity. Expected outcome of  the assistance will be two (2) new products registered for Intellectual  Property Right (IPR), developed good packaging & labels and established quality standard through product analyses in the Regional Standards & Testing Laboratory.

The DOST sees the project conforms to its mandate to partner for research and development and transfer basic and applied technologies for the improvement of the living condition of the community.
