The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02, in partnership with LGU Cauayan City, Isabela and Isabela State University, will showcase various science and technology activities in the upcoming celebration of Gawaygaway-yan Festival 2018 starting April 02, 2018.
The two-week celebration of the festival marks the city’s bountiful livelihood and good harvest while recognizing its cultural diversity and the undying ancestry of Cauayeños.
Regional Director Sancho A. Mabborang showed his support to the said festival and committed to include science and technology activities to increase the awareness and engagement of the people in S&T.
“Since Cauayan City has embraced the framework of SMARTER City, DOST Region 02 will help achieve this through Science and Technology”, said the Regional Director.
Cauayan City Mayor Bernard Faustino M. Dy expressed his gratitude to DOST for incorporating innovations brought by Science and Technology to the festival. “Thank you for putting S&T in our festival this year,” he said.
Launching of several projects will also take place in the festival. The second Food Innovation Center in Cagayan Valley and the Satellite Laboratory of the Regional Standard and Testing Laboratory will be launched along with the opening of S&T Exhibits at Isabela State University, Cauayan Campus Gymnasium.
Further, the first regional Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) Forum will be conducted to stimulate motivation and impart knowledge and wisdom to DOST-assisted micro, small and medium enterprises thru a motivational talk of Coach Randy Esguerra, owner of Success Coach. Also, there will be an awarding for the Best SETUP Adoptor in the region.
Moreover, training on Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training for SETUP clients and State Colleges and Universities and Slogan and Poster Making Contests, open to both primary and secondary schools, will be facilitated during the second week of the event.
Other activities including robotics exhibitions, car shows, and grand float parade will be showcased in the Gawaygaway-yan Festival.
DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña will serve as guest speaker in the SETUP Forum while Undersecretary for R&D Rowena Cristina L. Guevara as keynote speaker in the opening program of the said festival. Filipino Inventors Society Producer Cooperative President Francisco “Popoy” O. Pagayon also confirmed his attendance in the event.
